Getting Your Factory Ready for Opening Day

Setting up a new business involves many steps. One of the most complicated parts of the process is figuring out your manufacturing needs. If your business will manufacture its own products, make sure that the following tasks are on your to-do list as you set up your factory.

Purchase High-Quality Equipment

Most manufacturing processes require machines, which complete tasks much more efficiently and accurately than humans. Invest in equipment that will last for a long time and that is easily repairable. Make sure that the machines contain pieces that are aluminum die castings so that they can quickly be replaced if necessary.

Train Employees to Use Machinery

Some of your employees probably have backgrounds in manufacturing and will understand how to work certain machines. However, you should never assume that someone knows how to operate a piece of equipment on his or her first day. Before your company opens, conduct a mandatory training on all machines. Hold regular in-service training to make sure that employees retain their skills.

Prepare for Taxes

You only have to pay taxes once per year, but you should prepare for them year-round. Be meticulous in your hiring paperwork, and make sure that your employees provide all the necessary information. Keep careful records of payroll and all customer invoices. While it is a hassle to note every purchase and sale, doing so will make your taxes so much easier. When it’s tax time, consider hiring an accountant or using a professional service to ensure that you do not make any errors, particularly if it is your first tax season as a business owner.

As the owner of a factory, you have many responsibilities to keep track of. Before you open your doors, take care of your equipment, training and tax forms so that you are ready to fill your clients’ orders.
